Kai pathiri is a special malabar snack of Kerala!!

 

Kai Pathiri – Malabar –  Kai Pathiri is a traditional dish among Kerala Muslim cuisine. It is a Malabar dish which is usually prepared as a breakfast dish in Ramadan season. It is really tasty and easy to prepare. There are different pathiries named kaipathiri, neriya pathiri etc. The name Kai Pathiri is because it is prepared using hands. Kai Pathiri is Kerala’s very own bread made out of rice powder and grated coconut. It’s quite a favourite among keralites and goes well with any spicy gravy especially Non Vegetarian ones like Nadan Chicken Curry – നാടൻ ചിക്കൻ കറി, Spicy Mutton Curry, Hot And Spicy Nadan Beef Curry etc.

Ingredients

Roasted rice powder - 2 cups 

Grated coconut - 1 cup 

Shallots - 5 nos

 Cumin seeds - 2 tsp

Water - 2 cup 

Salt to taste


Method

Crush shallot and cumin seeds together, and keep it aside.
Add rice flour,shallot and cumin seeds, grated coconut and stir well. 

Knead it to a fine dough using hands without adding water.

 Make it into small lemon sized balls.


Take small balls and roll each of it into very thin, round shapes by spreading rice flour over the balls.

 Cut it into perfect round shape using a round and firm steel plate.

 Heat a thick bottom flat pan. 

Cook the pathiri by turning both sides till it is done.
