 Cheriyapayar Thoran is one of the most popular side dishes from Kerala made with green gram. Generally, rice porridge (ganji), small pea toran, pickle and ghee are a lip smacking food. It is very easy to make healthy and tasty. It can also be eaten as a snack during your tea time.

Cherupayar Thoran – Green Mung Beans With Coconut

Ingredients:

Green gram (cheriyapayar) 

coconut

Green chillies

Ginger

Garlic 

Turmeric powder

Cumin

Curry leaves 

 Onions

Pepper

 Salt to taste

Water to boil 


Method:

Soak green gram overnight in water

In a pressure cooker, add water and ginger and give one whistle. 

 Add coconut, green chillies, garlic, pepper and turmeric powder to the mixer and grind for 3 seconds.

Heat some oil in a pan and add cumin. 

Then fry onion and curry leaves lightly.

 Add ground mixture and fry for a few minutes. 

Now add boiled green gram and mix well. 

Add salt if desired. 

Serve with plain rice.
