KERALA MOST DELICIOUS RECIPE - MEEN POLLICHATHU – FISH COOKED IN BANANA LEAVES

Kerala the God's own country is known for its mouthwatering seafood recipes. Fish curry and fish recipe of Kerala is outstanding as it's full of real flavors of the Kerala. One of the most delicious recipe of Kerala with the fish from their own reservoir is Meen pollichathu Or fish cooked in banana leaves. Banana leaves is common of Keralians as the fish cooked in it fills the traditional culture of them that is really magical. 


Meen pollichathu / Fish cooked in banana leaves


 Ingredients


 Fish 

 Coconut oil

 Chilli powder

 Ginger

 Garlic

 Black pepper powder

 Coriander powder

 Turmeric powder

 Small onion

 Curry leaves

 Lemon juice

 Coconut milk some 

 Tamarind soaked in water for 15 mins

 Salt to taste

 Banana leaf for wrapping


Preparation


Marinate fish with chilly powder, salt, garlic ginger paste and lemon juice. Keep it aside for one hour. 

Now take the small onion, garlic , curry leaves ,green chillies in a mixer and grind slightly not too much. 

Next fry the fish in a pan. 

After that into that coconut oil in the pan add the slightly grinded mixture and sauté until the shallots turn slightly golden.

Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and pepper powder.

Pour in the tamarind water and salt and cook well . 

Then pour some coconut milk then off the flame after 5 minutes. 

On a banana leaf, spread 1 tbsp masala and place fried fish on it. Spread more masala on the side of the fish facing up, until the fish is covered.

Sprinkle black pepper powder and drizzle some coconut oil.

Wrap the fish nicely with banana leaf and grill it on a tawa on both sides. Serve hot.
